Getting Ready for Young Children
Sessions with young children are full of movement, giggles and surprises. This guide will help you set everyone up for a fun, low‑stress experience so we can capture genuine smiles and cuddles.

- Setting expectations
- Tell your child you’re going to play and have photos taken while you cuddle and have fun.
- Avoid telling them they must “smile nicely” or “be good” – that can add pressure.
- Let them know I’m a friend who’s coming to take photos of your family together.
- Timing & routines
- Choose a time that fits around naps and meals.
- Try to keep their routine as normal as possible on the day.
- Bring them a little early so they can warm up to the space and to me.

What to bring
- A favourite toy, book or comfort item.
- Simple, non‑messy snacks and a drink.
- A spare outfit (or at least a spare top) in case of spills or accidents.
- Wipes, tissues and anything else you’d usually take on an outing.
What to wear
- Soft, comfy clothes they can move and play in.
- Avoid scratchy fabrics or anything they usually complain about.
- Neutral or soft colours work beautifully and keep the focus on their expressions.
During the session
- Let them move, explore and be themselves – I’ll follow their lead.
- We’ll mix a few “looking at the camera” moments with lots of play and cuddles.
- If they need a break, that’s okay – we can pause, snack, reset and start again.
