Your family session is all about connection, cuddles and real moments together. This guide is here to help you feel calm, organised and ready, so you can stop worrying about the little things and simply enjoy being with the people you love. We’ll walk through timing, outfits, what to bring and how to keep everyone relaxed, so you can arrive feeling confident and excited for your photos.

Getting Ready for Your Family Session

Timing & naps
• Try to book a time when your kids are usually happiest (often morning or late afternoon).
• Avoid starting right on nap or meal times.
• If your child still naps, keep their routine as normal as possible on the day.
• Aim to arrive 10–15 minutes early so no one feels rushed.

Keeping everyone relaxed
• Talk about the session as something fun, not something they “have to behave for”.
• Let kids bring a favourite toy or comfort item if it helps them feel safe.
• Don’t worry about “perfect” behaviour – I’m used to wriggles, silliness and big feelings.
• Focus on cuddling, playing and chatting with your kids; I’ll guide you gently as we go.

What to wear
• Choose soft, comfortable clothes you can move and sit in easily.
• Start with one outfit you love, then coordinate everyone else around it.
• Neutral and earthy tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your faces.
• Avoid big logos, neon colours and very busy patterns that can distract in photos.

What to bring
• Snacks that aren’t messy (no chocolate or bright-coloured lollies if possible).
• Water for everyone, especially on warm days.
• A spare outfit for little ones, just in case.
• Wipes, tissues and any comfort items your kids might need.

On the day
• Try to keep the day slow and simple before your session.
• Eat something beforehand so no one is hungry.
• Expect a bit of chaos – that’s normal with families and often where the magic is.
• Trust that I’ll guide you through and capture the real, beautiful moments between you.
